Wondering how to keep the kids engaged while having fun, too, over the next four days? Hie thee off to the Kimmel Center for The Rock School Nutcracker 1776!
If I had a ballet-loving young daughter and/or son, THIS would be a must-see Thanksgiving weekend event. The Pennsylvania Ballet's Nutcracker is exquisite, but how many youngsters are going to make it to that level of dance? A wonderful dream that I believe deserves nurturing, BUT the version at the Kimmel Center this weekend features breathtakingly talented students & teachers, artists with whom fledgling ballet stars can relate!
I'll let the reviews speak for themselves.
"Nutcracker 1776 is such a professional performance, that it is difficult to remember the show is put on by students." -- Becky, Feasterville, PA
"The story involving the city's
history is a twist on the Nutcracker; choreography and costumes are
spectacular, but I love the performers the most." -- Jen, Philadelphia, PA
"Nutcracker 1776 is an adaptation of the original ballet that is attractive to the whole family. Kids love it. The costumes are amazing. The corps of ballet can compete with any professional ballet company, in fact they are as good if not better than professional ones I've seen." -- Yenni, Barrington, NJ
"Nutcracker 1776 has become a cherished tradition in our family as a kickstart to the holiday season. Each year, we look forward to the stellar performance of the Rock School students & faculty. It's a delight to view these talented & dedicated dancers who are such a credit to the art as well as the city of Philadelphia and its unique history." -- Heather, Philadelphia, PA
